Russian and foreign journalists receive awards

On November 2 the award ceremony for the winners of the Fourth Dot-Journalism Award took place at the Russian Interactive Week 2016. This is the annual award for journalists writing about domains and other internet addressing systems. This time applications to the contest were submitted by about 40 journalists who presented over 30 publications, reviews, reports and news articles. They represented large federal media, industry-related online publications, and Russian regional and foreign media. The award ceremony was conducted by the director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev.

The award was presented in seven nominations. PC Week journalist Andrei Kolesov won in the category “Best analytical material.” Journalists from the newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta Yulia Voronina and Tatyana Shadrina were the runners up.

Vladimir Zykov from the newspaper Izvestia won in the category “Best series of publications.” He is a repeat winner of the Dot-Journalism Award. This time Zykov submitted 12 articles analyzing events in the domain industry.

Correspondent of the newspaper Vedomosti Anastasia Golitsyna won for “Best survey material.” The Coordination Center gave a special prize to CNews correspondent Igor Korolyov in the same category. Honorable mention went to Maria Mikhailovskaya from the newspaper Parlamentskaya Gazeta and Vladimir Todorov from Lenta.ru.

Tatyana Bragina from IT World won for “Best educational material.” There were many winners in the category “What’s up in the industry?” It was awarded for reports about events in the domain industry. Journalist from the publication Connect. WIT Valery Korzhov was the overall winner in this category. The Coordination Center also awarded a special prize to Deutsche Welle journalist Pavel Bykovsky for covering the first Belorusian forum on internet governance. The Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) also awarded a special prize to journalists of the publication Dagestanskaya Pravda Aishat Tazhudinova, Dmitry Tipakov, Yusuf Aliyev and Damir Saidgazin. They were awarded for covering the first RIW.Caucasus.

“Best domain post” was won by Sergei Mekeda, a journalist from Saratov who writes for the Domain Parking blog. Nargiz Belyayeva from Kazakhstan won for “Beyond runet.” She analyzed the reasons for the growing cost of renting IP-addresses in .KZ.

“We hope our winners will cover even more interesting topics and we invite them to take part in the next, fifth Dot-Journalism contest the start of which we will announce in 2017. Its concept will change a bit but I promise it will be interesting. I’d like to thank all participants for their attention to the domain industry and excellent knowledge of the subject,” said Coordination Center director Andrey Vorobyev.
