Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ to hold Net Security Class

On October 26, the National News Service is hosting a press conference, Nationwide Class: How to Protect Children Online?

The Nationwide School Student Net Security Class, which will be held for the third time from October 26 to 30 in Russian schools countrywide, is intended to promote cybersecurity and digital literacy among school students, and raise awareness about net security among their parents and teachers. In two years, the lesson has become one of the largest events that the Federation Council and Ministry of Education organize for schools.

Speaking at the conference, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev mentioned the center’s social and educational projects, including Study the Internet, Govern It game and the related 5th National Cup that is taking place these days, as well as the Positive Content website contest. The National Cup was chosen as one of the events to be timed with the Nationwide Class.

“The Coordination Center of TLD .RU/.РФ has many social and educational projects aimed at improving students’ media literacy and internet security practices. Our Study the Internet, Govern It game is a quiz, where a large part is dedicated to protection from malware, online fraud, cyberbullying and other online hazards. The Positive Content contest that we are supporting has already turned into a Russia-wide movement to develop websites with secure and trustworthy content. It has involved thousands of users from all over Russia. These initiatives are featured in the syllabus of the Nationwide Net Security Class to add to the enormous efforts made over the recent years,” Andrey Vorobyev said. Vorobyev also said that speakers from the Coordination Center have already taken part in making content for the class, including a video lecture about malware protection. On October 27, the Coordination Center will hold its own Net Security Lesson at the Russian State Children’s Library with info support from the School of New Technologies. School students from 7 through 9 year are invited to attend.

The lesson will feature:

  • A lecture on Runet history and IT security rules by Mikhail Anismiov, Deputy Director for Information Service at the Coordination Center;
  • A tournament based on the Study the Internet, Govern It game and moderated by Denis Zhilin, Head of the Coordination Center’s Social and Public Internet Projects;
  • A guided tour around the Russian State Children’s Library.
