European registries to compete for users

Last week, CENTR (Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries) held a Marketing Workshop in Trondheim. The event focused on national domain promotion and measures to stimulate an increase in domain name registration. The workshop was one of the largest events of this type, attended by over 40 participants, including experts from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. The workshop was hosted by the Norwegian Registry for TLD .NO Norid.

Over the course of two days, the participants discussed key aspects of generating interest in national domains. They shared experiences in launching interactive platforms and educational projects for small and medium-sized businesses and other target groups interested in the formation of their own network identity. Significant attention was also paid to working more closely and effectively with domain registrars and social media.

“Since 2015, the Coordination Center has supported the holding of the Website Formula series of workshops involving leaders of the IT industry, during which our experts tell internet entrepreneurs about the ins and outs of running an internet business and the importance of domain names to internet projects. In this regard, we are interested in our European partners' experience of carrying out marketing campaigns aimed at small businesses. Presentations by VeriSign and EURid were very useful for us; they emphasized the importance of traditional websites and domain names for businesses in their communications with consumers in the era of social media. We will take this advice into account when preparing our own presentations,” Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center, said.

In addition, the participants discussed the need for stronger cooperation between national domain registries to boost the growth of registrations, the further diversification of services offered by registries and measures to increase the awareness of market participants of the role and activities of registries.
