Coordination Center puts together a big data working group

The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Internet Development Institute are accepting applications for their big data working group, which was established after a meeting with Presidential Adviser German Klimenko. The working group’s main objective is to develop proposals for a bill on big data regulation.

According to a source at the Internet Development Institute, the working group will be based at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and will be headed by Coordination Center Deputy Director Sergei Kopylov. The group members will identify problems in big data collection and processing regulation, including personal data processing. They will determine which legislative instruments conflict with business practices in terms of big data processing, define personal data and outline the framework for state regulation of personal data collection and processing. Preliminary results of the group’s activity will be presented at a meeting with Presidential Adviser every three months, which will lead to legislative initiatives based on those results.

“The Coordination Center has vast experience with personal data. For many years, we have been processing personal data of domain name administrators. It is for this reason that we were entrusted with supervising and coordinating the big data initiative. We would like to invite representatives of major Internet companies, telecommunications networks and relevant governing bodies to work with us. Qualified individuals with experience in technology and law are also welcome to participate,” Coordination Center Director Andrey Vorobyev said.

To apply for membership in the big data working group, go to https://cctld.ru/ru/activities/bigdata/. Due to the restricted number of members, the organizing committee will select successful applicants after careful consideration.
