Electronic domain transfer became available to .RU and RF domains on August 30. This will help administrators save money, as they no longer have to come to the registry personally or submit notarized documents. Now everything is done online. Residents of areas that lack offices of accredited registrars stand to benefit the most.
The new process was developed with due account of international practice. It helps harmonize the procedures used in national and gTLD domains, speeds up the transfer of domain names, and makes it safer and more reliable.
“Many registrars had an opportunity to see how electronic transfer works in advance. It was available on Virtual Registrar. There is a trend toward simplification of similar administrative and technical procedures, and we want to keep pace with all advanced practices. It ensures equal opportunities for all domain name administrators regardless of their place of residence. I think both administrators and registrars will appreciate its convenience,” said Director of the Coordination Center for TLD RU Andrey Vorobyev.
Registrars will still have to pay for the transfer. The fee was established on the basis of the world practice of charging the cost of registering or extending a domain name for a year. Payment will be made by the registrar receiving a domain name. Registrars may require payment from the administrators of transferred names at their own discretion.
All amendments are reflected in the new version of the Rules of Domain Names Registration in domains .RU and .РФ, which will take effect on August 30, 2016.
