At a recent Council meeting of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, held on July 28, its members supported the project for creating a Russian Internet statistical monitoring system. This project was developed by the Coordination Center. It is designed to gather and analyze statistical data and to draw up detailed annual reports, which will show current trends in the Internet and related industries.
The official statistical data will be used as an information resource. In this way, the findings will be consistent with the state statistics requirements and methods used by international organizations, such as the OECD, Eurostat and the International Telecommunication Union. The results of these studies can be used to monitor and assess the socioeconomic impact of the ICT and the Internet, and will make it possible to compare the real state of affairs in this sector of the Russian and other economies. The project will be conducted in close coordination with the Institute of Internet Development. The National Research University - Higher School of Economics is already developing research methods commissioned by the Coordination Center.
“The availability of accessible information to generate forecasts for the development of respective market segments is one of the preconditions for making a business attractive to investors,” the coordinator of the project, Deputy Director of the Coordination Center Andrei Romanov, said. “Such a forecast is an essential part of virtually any business plan. Thus, the availability of accurate and diverse information about a market, in particular, the market of information technology, telecommunications and the Internet, is one of the most important factors determining the pace of development of the Internet market in Russia. This goal is also associated with the need to assess the effectiveness of activities under the roadmap developed by the Institute of Internet Development.”
The Coordination Center has extensive experience collecting and analyzing statistical data about the work of the Russian .RU and .РФ domains. These data are available on the “Domains of Russia” portal and provide a comprehensive picture of the Russian domain market and the evolution of the Russian domain space. Now, this knowledge will be used to support an even more ambitious project. In 2017, the project team is planning to present the initial results of studies conducted on the basis of the methodology developed by the Higher School of Economics.
