The Coordination Center for TLD .RU has prepared recommendations to be included in a trade agreement with China, which is currently being developed under the leadership of the Eurasian Economic Commission. They address the protection of the rights of domain name administrators in the Russian and Chinese national zones.
The new trade agreement will govern the relationship between Russia and China on a variety of different issues relating to the economy, freedom of enterprise and technology exchange. One of the most important sections of the document is devoted to intellectual property and protection of the rights of trademark owners. Experts at the Coordination Center proposed including an article specifying how trademark owners could protect their ownership of a domain name and the legal remedies available to them.
Representatives of business, non-profit organizations and government agencies are helping draft the trade agreement with China, which is expected to be signed at the end of 2016.
“The Coordination Center has long maintained friendly relations with the Chinese national registry, CNNIC,” Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU Andrey Vorobyev said. “Our registries have a lot in common in the development of national domain space, the use of domain names and security on the Internet. So, I think it is quite natural to develop a common approach to and respect for domain name rights, especially because the Coordination Center has extensive experience in this area, and we are ready to share it.”
In 2014, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU and the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) signed a memorandum of understanding at the World Internet Conference held in China.
