20th anniversary Russian Internet Forum RIF+KIB has opened in Moscow Region. Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation Nikolay Nikiforov opened the Forum. In his speech he said that Internet had a significant influence of the economy of the country. The main task of the industry today is fiber-optic communication lines routing in all the settlements of the Russian Federation. Nikolay Nikiforov also mentioned that according to latest data Russian language had become the second most popular on the global Internet.
Leonid Levin, chairman of Russia’s State Duma Committee of Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, explained how interaction between the state and Internet business works today. “The state shouldn’t be a “big brother”, it should be a companion and helper for Internet and it’s users”, said Leonid Levin. President’s Internet Advisor German Klimenko pointed out that during the last 20 years Internet has penetrated all spheres of Russian economy.
The President of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) Sergey Plugotarenko and CEO at ADJ Consulting Andrey Zotov presented RIF+KIB guests an overview report on Runet today and how Russian Internet will grow in the next 20 years: “Runet’s audience is 80.5 million users, 66.5 million of them use the net every day. In 20 years the audience has increased by 2000 times! Up until 2020 Runet will develop according to crisis model and an average growth of the market will account for 8-10% per year. At the moment Runet is one of the few growing sectors of economy. In 1998 there were 26 thousand webpages on Runet, now domain .RU is the 5th in the world, it’s our pride and honor!”
Director at Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ Andrey Vorobyev said that Russian domain space had been growing in the past months: “More than 6.5 million domain names has been registered in Russian domain space, not only in traditional domains .RU, .РФ and .SU, but also in new generic top-level domains - .ДЕТИ, .МОСКВА, .MOSCOW, .TATAR, .РУС and others. There are 35 accredited registrars, domain business is actively developing both in Moscow and in the regions”. Andrey Vorobyev invited everyone to visit session called “Domains 2.0” that started on April 13th at 15.30 in hall №8. Natalia Sergunina (Government of Moscow), Ruslan Tagiev (TNS), Pavel Alyoshin (Yandex), Sergey Negodyaev (IIDP), Vladimir Malyugin (PayPal), Andrei Kuzmichev (RU-CENTER) and Alexei Gubarev (server.ru) also participated in the opening of the Forum.
Coordination Center presented its own stand at RIF+KIB in the operation of which participated accredited registrars. All days of the Forum Coordination Center organizes quizzes with interesting prizes from CCTLD. Moreover, registrars also organize games with prizes.
