Experts at Coordination Center for TLD RU tell school students about online security

Mikhail Anisimov, representative of the Coordination Center for TLD RU, told school students about the fundamentals of online security and the rules that help protect users against major risks. He made the report during a meeting with Internet industry specialists at School No. 1253 on March 11. Such meetings are held regularly and are part of the large project, Digital Literacy Lessons.

In his report, Mikhail described the main threats facing Internet users, such as phishing, swindling, personal data theft and malware infection. Students learned how to identity a fraudulent website, select a safe password and prevent swindlers from intercepting online payments.

Following the report the students showered the expert with questions. It appeared that many of them were victims of swindling on the Internet. For the most part criminals stole their social media or gaming platform accounts or were asked to provide their passports information or send an SMS message to an unknown number.

“Working with the school audience is part of our large-scale efforts to make the Internet safer for users. Digital literacy helps people use the Internet to resolve many routine tasks and we are doing a lot to continuously raise the level of digital literacy,” Mikhail Anisimov said.
