The Coordination Center for TLD RU and the New Technology School design office have organized a webinar, The ABCs of Internet Organization. The lecturer was Georgy Georgiyevsky, head of the Coordination Center's Registrar and End-User Projects Department.
Over 100 participants signed up for the webinar – mostly high-school students from 15 Moscow schools and their teachers. Participation was open; i.e., anyone interested in learning how the network works could listen to the lecturer and ask questions.
The lecturer offered an overview of various areas such as addresses, domains, routing and network management. As he went along, the students asked questions in the chat format to which Georgievsky was happy to reply. The exchange continued even after the webinar, as students submitted questions by e-mail.
The webinar was summed up by Olga Aleksandrova-Myasina, head of the Coordination Center's Information Service.
“The Coordination Center devotes considerable attention to the digital literacy and education of our users, especially young people. This is our first webinar for school students, and this experience has shown that young people are interested in the way the Internet works. I believe we’ll hold these classes regularly, especially considering that such webinars can be a first step for children toward participation in our online game Explore Internet – Govern It.
