The Committee for Internet Infrastructure at the Coordination Center for TLD RU had its first meeting on December 18. Participants discussed the committee’s goals, adopted a set of internal regulations and elected Vasily Dolmatov, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, as the committee’s chair.
The committee plans to cover a wide range of issues related to existing protocols and technology, which are essential for the functioning of the Internet of today. The development of the .RU and .РФ domains is only one of the committee’s goals. Among its priorities, Mr Dolmatov said, is ensuring that Russia continues to be represented in international engineering and tech teams responsible for the development and implementation of promising Internet technology and protocols, for example, at the IETF.
Participants also discussed the role the committee will play in the formation and development of Internet infrastructure systems. It is to become a center of attraction for technical specialists working in the field of infrastructure and Internet protocols, in addition to a place for working out an agreed-on expert view on Internet development possibilities, which will serve as a starting point for recommendations on various Internet aspects.
