RU-CERT moves in to fight cybercrime

The Coordination Center for TLD.Ru has signed a cooperation agreement with the RU-CERT Computer Emergency Response Team. The partnership aims to improve the security of the Russian domain space, in particular, to fight phishing, unauthorized access to third-party information systems, the dissemination of malware and bot-network operations.

RU-CERT collaborates with Russia’s leading IT companies, investigative authorities, federal state and government agencies, computer emergency response centers abroad and other computer and information security organizations. RU-CERT is a member of the CSIRT/CERT-FIRST international associations and Trusted Introducer, and in this capacity acts as the official liaison for Russia.

Both sides say they are confident that the agreement will help improve the security of the Russian segment of the global network and identify possible problems and respond to them promptly and effectively.

CC TLD.Ru Director Andrey Vorobyev noted that the security of the Russian domain space is an important issue today, and the Coordination Center gives high priority to it. “The list of competent organizations will continue to expand. This will enable us to address all possible security aspects in Russian domains. It’s great that RU-CERT, a major Russian computer emergency response center, has joined us. Next year, we plan to establish cooperation with CERT centers abroad, which will help deal with cyber security issues not only on the Russian but also the international level, benefit from our colleagues’ experience and share our experience with them,” he said.

“Our center has been dealing with various computer threats and ways of neutralizing them since 1998. During this time, we have accumulated considerable experience in the field and have an extensive database of computer incidents in the Russian segment of the Internet that is regularly updated. The agreement will give our organization an opportunity to work directly with the Coordination Center for TLD.Ru and registrars in closing malicious domains. This will enhance the efficiency of our incident response and help us make the Russian segment of the Internet safer for users,” RU-CERT spokesman Dmitry Ippolitov said.
