In conjunction with the Department of Intellectual Property Rights at the Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSLU), the Court for Intellectual Property Rights held a Research Advisory Board meeting as part of the celebrations dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the MSLU foundation. The Research Advisory Board meeting was attended by Board member and Deputy Director of the Coordination Center for Legal Issues Sergei Kopylov.
The participants discussed trademark-related issues. The participating experts shared their opinions on the subject, which will be used as a basis to draft a background note by the Presidium of the Court for Intellectual Property Rights and further used by courts when considering corresponding cases.
The Research and Advisory Board is an advisory body whose primary goal is to develop scientifically substantiated clarifications and findings on the application of international treaties, laws and other regulations for the purpose of forming uniform judicial practice, as well as to develop proposals toward improving legislation in intellectual property rights. The Coordination Center focuses on cooperation with the Court for Intellectual Property Rights. In 2013, the Presidium of the Court for Intellectual Property Rights adopted a resolution, On Approving a Background Note about Certain Matters Related to Procedural Order for Using Injunction Measures during Domain Disputes, which was put together with the help of the experts of the Coordination Center’s Legal Department. In 2014, the Court for Intellectual Property Rights approved a background note on issues arising during the consideration of domain disputes.
The Coordination Center also engages in training legal personnel and supporting industry-specific legal training. Today, the Coordination Center acts as co-organizer of the First All-Russian Contest for IP & IT Law, which is sponsored by the Moscow State Law Academy.
