In September of 2015 accredited registrars received 175 requests from the company Group-IB for removal of domain names-violators from delegation. As a result of activities undertaken 146 domain names were removed from delegation. Among 29 domain names that at the moment are in delegation, 10 from them were unblocked due to the elimination of the reasons for blocking by domain names owners. Unblocking was made on the request of CERT-GIB.
According to the Group-IB report, the major part of the domains reported to registrars (56%) pointed to malware. Only 2% of the reported domains were used in controlling botnets.
Group-IB is commissioned to identify domains-violators under the agreement with Coordination Center on combating unauthorized use of domains .RU and .РФ. In the area of expertise of Group-IB is countering the use of domain names in domains .RU и .РФ for illegal purposes, such as phishing, unauthorized access to information systems, distribution of malware and also management of networks of infected computers.
