Russian Internet Forum RIF.Innopolis was opened on July 9 in Innopolis (Republic of Tatarstan). This is a major Internet and new digital economy event. The forum began with the ceremony of official opening of the town of Innopolis. The Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and the interim president of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov opened a new Russian town the construction of which started three years ago.
In his speech Dmitry Medvedev has pointed out that development of science and entrepreneurship centers in regions is one of the key tasks of Russian government. Innopolis will be one of the main training centers for the Russian IT industry. This was demonstrated through deeds: after the grand opening several major events of the Russian IT industry were held in Innopolis.
Forum RIF.Innopolis is going to cover all aspects of the Internet industry: during the sessions experts will discuss Internet economy, technologies, social and cultural aspects of the net and information security. Session Internet Infrastructure: Bridging the Digital Divide and Digital Sovereignty took place on the first day of the forum. Director at the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ Andrei Kolesnikov was one of the speakers at the session.
In his speech Andrei Kolesnikov highlighted that critical Internet infrastructure faces different risks, however, a set of measures to be taken doesn’t depend on the type of a threat: “There are several conditions that will ensure reliable operation of the network. First of all, it’s layered monitor system that would allow timely identification of anomalies in the function of technical systems. The second condition is coordination of effort. Formal procedure of interaction between operators and different institutions responsible for infrastructure’s function are needed. And the third element is duplication and redundancy of technical systems that keeps the operation stable upon the occurrence of different threats.”
Session participants agreed that Internet today is one of the basic needs like electricity or public services and stability of its operation is one of the main tasks for the whole community of the industry.
Carrying out several other IT events in Tatarstan (simultaneously with events in Innopolis 9th meeting of Euro-Asian Operators Network Grop ENOG takes place in Kazan) is not accidental. Tatarstan is a recognized leader in the implementation of IT technologies in Russia. Today there are 3 million Internet users in Tatarstan and Internet penetration is 73% - one of the highest rates in Russia.
