Session Children’s Internet: Safety, Media Literacy took place on the second day of the Big Media Communication Forum (MCF 2015). Session participants discussed issues of children’s Internet development and child’s safety on the Internet space. Public Opinion Foundation provided some interesting data: according to the Foundation, around 94% of parents of underage kids that use Internet believe that adults should keep track of what sites their children visit. However, more than 80% of families use at least one tool to make Internet usage for kids safe. 24% of respondents do not believe that it is possible to create safe Internet space.
Pavel Khramtsov, the head of the Netoscope project of Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ explained how to make Internet safer for children and teenagers. Netoscope is one of the examples how the cooperation of large companies can significantly affect safety of the Internet and decrease the number of malicious webpages”, said Pavel Khramtsov. He also gave some advice to parents of underage Internet users. He recommended using parental control function or a special children’s browser, also spend more time with children discussing what a child can see during Internet sessions and explain why this or that limitation to use network exists.
Session participants paid attention to the first Cyrillic children domain .ДЕТИ as well. Denis Zhilin, marketing director at Smart Internet Foundation, spoke about the first results of domain’s work and implementation of the President’s project in which domain .ДЕТИ participates. The main aim of the project is creation of a model “website builder” and a set of recommendations on placement and content of children’s institutions webpages. During the discussion participants came to the conclusion that judging by the combination of factors .Дети domain zone is the safest place on Russian Internet.
