Russian Conference of developers and users PostgreSQL - PGCONF.RUSSIA 2015 was held in Moscow. The conference was organized by Russian Association for Electronic Communication (RAEC) with the support of Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ. Andrei Kolesnikov, CEO at Coordination Center, attended the conference. Leading Russian and foreign developers, representatives of the companies that implement PostgreSQL spoke at the conference.
Oleg Bartunov, the leading Russian developer of PostgreSQL and CEO at recently created company Postgres Professional opened the conference. Nikolai Nikiforov, Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media, greeted the participants. He said that the state aims at increasing usage of the free software, including database management system PostgreSQL. Moreover, Minister said that it was necessary to develop the community of Postgres experts in Russia. Michael Medrish, director at Internet Support and Development Foundation pointed out during his speech that Internet and IT are facets of the single set of information and communication technologies.
A panel discussion «PostgreSQL and technological independence of Russia» was held at the conference, the convenors were Michael Medrish, director at Internet Support and Development Foundation and Igor Zhukov, deputy general director at Protected Radio-electronic Information Technologies. Participants of the discussion came to the conclusion that usage of the free software increases the level of technological independence of the country. One of the necessary conditions of the successful completion of the task of wide implementation of PostgreSQL is availability of experts whose training should be the common task of business, state and nonprofit organizations.
After the panel discussion was over Michael Medrish said: «Usage of PostgreSQL free software is an essential condition to solve many problems including tasks of expansion and development of Internet services. This is why the Foundation made a decision to sponsor the conference. I believe that it is extremely important for the whole Internet community that this area in the country is actively developed.»
