National domains’ registries of Russia and China signed Memorandum of Understanding

World Internet Conference took place in China last week. More than 1.5 thousand experts from 175 countries took part in it. They represented governments, international organizations, business, scientific and technical communities. The focuses of the conference were issues of global Internet governance, development of mobile Internet, cross-border e-commerce, problems in the sphere of information security and fight against cyber terrorism.

Andrei Kolesnikov, CEO at Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ took part in the conference. He was one of the experts on Internet governance and also made a speech.

One the last day of the conference representatives of the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ and China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) – registry of the Chinese national domain .CN – signed Memorandum of Understanding. The parties identified direction of cooperation in different areas, such as improving the stability and security of the domain space, further usage expansion of IDN domains, development of the domain name system.

“For a long time now we have been cooperating with the registry of .CN domain and I can say that our Chinese colleagues have very successful experience in the fight against cyber crime. This experience will be useful for Russia. Moreover, we have common interests in the development of the system of IDN domains and promotion of domain in national languages both among users and developers of software, web applications and services. I’m convinced that signing of the memorandum will give a new impulse to the development of our relations,” said Andrei Kolesnikov.
