Andrei Kolesnikov: The Russian Internet cannot be compromised

Russian Interactive Week (RIW 2014) has commenced at Moscow’s Expocenter. This year, RIW has for the first time brought together experts from three different sectors: telecommunications, media and the Internet. The event, which is convening for the 7th time, is expected to attract over 20,000 visitors.

In his opening remarks at the forum, Sergei Plugotarenko, Director of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC), said that 2014 is an anniversary year for the Russian Internet, as April 7 marked 20 years since the establishment of the Russian national domain .RU. Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/ .РФ Andrei Kolesnikov also spoke of the Russian domain space. In particular, he noted that Russia’s second national domain – the Cyrillic .РФ – has been the leader among the world IDN domains for the fourth consecutive year.

He also said that a major priority for the Internet and telecom industry today is to ensure the stable and safe operation of the web and the industry’s development. “The Russian Internet is mature, independent, and very robust. It can survive any outside interference and cannot be compromised,” Andrei Kolesnikov said.

The Coordination Center has traditionally supported Russian Interactive Week. This year, it is sponsoring the business area. The Center’s representatives have praised RIW’s new format and said that it represents a big step forward for the entire industry and serves to unite all three sectors and contributes to their continued joint development.
