Today, October 10, a press conference was held at the press center of ITAR TASS news agency dedicated to presentation of a new format of RIW’2014. This year for the first time RIW will become a platform that brings together professionals of three sectors – telecommunications, media and Internet, this is why Russian Association of Electronic Communications (RAEC) organized RIW’2014 together with Media-Communication Union (MCU).
Sergey Plugotarenko, President at RAEC, explained how RIW would change this year. “From this year our event will be called Russian Interactive Week and I hope this name will take root”, said Sergey Plugotarenko. He pointed out that today these three sectors were closely interconnected and could not exist without one another. Sergey Petrov, President at Media-Communication Union, expanded the topic. He showed participants first results of large-scale research of strategic aspects of sectors’ development. Full study will be presented at RIW’2014.
Andrei Kolesnikov, CEO at Coordination Center for TLD RU, noted that bringing together telecom, Internet and media is a historic event: “The debate about who should pay whom – Internet sites to operators or vice versa – has started almost from the very appearance of the Internet. Sectors have always stimulated each other’s development. For example, the heavy content at the time was the main driver of broadband access growth and spread. And the union of the three sectors, their willingness to cooperate and further joint development is a huge step forward for the whole industry. It is beneficial for everyone – operators, content producers and customers.”
