The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) and the Coordination Center (CC) for TLD RU/РФ have signed a cooperation agreement to help prevent and control violations, and to increase Internet security and data protection.
The two agencies agreed to exchange information to boost information security, to prevent the proliferation of illegal content, and to fight cybercrime. In particular, Roskomnadzor will share with the CC for TLD RU.РФ the information on websites included on any of its black lists (or facing inclusion). Thus the CC will be able to notify domain name administrators of illegal content found on websites.
“Now we can promptly warn domain administrators of new complaints about their website content,” CC Director Andrei Kolesnikov said. “It often happens that a website’s shutdown comes as a surprise to its owner. A timely warning would help avoid many unpleasant situations.”
The early warning service for domain administrators and website owners will be built into the SiteIndicator mobile app. This app runs on all mobile and desktop platforms and helps resource owners quickly deal with a variety of tasks, from paying for their hosting or domain name registration to analyzing website audience. These technical metrics are provided free of charge by the openstat.ru analytical platform.
It is equally important that the impending shutdown notifications will be provided not only to administrators of second-level domains, but also to website owners in the third- and lower-level domains, as well as in other domain zones: Websites get blacklisted by their URL, and SiteIndicator can be installed on any website. “We think it’s especially important to build a system of notifications and feedback for all resources under TLD RU. Roskomnadzor is an integral part of the Russian Internet landscape, so our joint project should on the one hand, benefit resource owners, while on the other hand, help reduce the amount of illegal content,” Kolesnikov said.
