Andrei Kolesnikov: The Internet has been growing very fast, which is a virtue

The international Cyber Security Forum 2014, which opened in Moscow on February 19, was organized by the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) with the assistance of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce (RBCC) and the Russian Community Centre for Internet Technologies (ROCIT).

The forum is intended to discuss the main trends of Internet security technologies in Russia and the world and aims to provide practical solutions to the challenges that are facing IT consumers and developers.

The opening address was delivered by Andrei Kolesnikov, Coordinator of the Centre for TLD RU. He spoke about cybersecurity and Internet regulation in different countries and also compared Internet laws in Russia, India, the United States and Brazil. Kolesnikov said that, unfortunately, the lawmakers in different countries failed to create a supranational Request for Comments (RFC) memo for global Internet policy governance.

During a roundtable titled Technologies for information security: How to protect the integrity of the Internet, Pavel Khramtsov reported on experience in combating cyber threats without destroying the infrastructure of the Internet, using the example of the Domain Classifier database and Netoscope. He spoke in detail about major Internet companies’ exchange of research and technical data on malwares, which aims at aggregating information about noted malware-related domain names and at providing this information to anyone who is interested in it.

Other speakers at the roundtable were Alexander Venedyukhin (RU-Center), Vladimir Kremer (AIG), and Dmitry Chernetsky (Kaspersky Lab). They spoke about cybersecurity methods that rely on a number of technologies. “The good thing about the Internet is that it is developing faster than the threats associated with its use,” Kolesnikov said. “Therefore, we can offer a prompt solution to any problem without destroying the Internet’s infrastructure. The Internet is growing very fast, which is its virtue.”
