Andrei Kolesnikov, the Coordination Center director, explained how ccTLDs can promote social values and otherwise be useful to society, in his speech at the IGF as a part of the workshop focused on social roles of the ccTLDs.
"As the guardian and trustee of the public good, our prime concerns are to tackle security threats, monitor and evaluate legislation and technical matters. In addition, being the biggest IDN TLD registry in the world, we are keen to contribute to deployment of IDN email system and the process of its universal acceptance", – Kolesnikov says.
He also elaborated on some of the Coordination Center's social activities: an online game “Explore the Internet and Govern it”, an annually held Russian IGF, special educational program for judges, engagement in the global ISOC community and, among others, the Coordination Center's recent initiative to launch a new generic IDN TLD, .ДЕТИ.
"We believe that as a trustee of special public good, we should “go and spread the word”, and IDN TLD .РФ is a perfect platform to promote Internet literacy in Russia", – Kolesnikov points out.
