Andrey Kolesnikov, CEO of Coordination Center spoke today about .РФ domain problems and perspectives. Meeting with journalists was held as a press breakfast, organized by Coordination Center. According to CC Director, email support will help the largest Cyrillic domain in the world grow for 20% more. Moreover, Mr. Kolesnikov noted that the success of international domains largely depends on software producers and their desire to include IDN support in their devices.
Large Internet-companies and software producers quite easily accommodate with IDN-domains registries. For instance one of the largest social networks Facebook solved the problem with .РФ domain in just one day. The main software systems and browsers are now also compatible with internationalized domain names but for some software producers IDN support is still not obligatory despite multimillion audience of the internationalized domains.
Mr. Kolesnikov also said that one of the reasons of .РФ domain success is its actual irreplaceability in outdoor advertising when a domain on an advertising board is clear to everyone and is remembered on the first sight. Many company register their domain names in .РФ domain with exactly the aim of clients attraction: according to the CC CEO, people realised the usefulness of this domain and use it in business more and more actively.
In 2012 Coordination Center with the help of partners created a platform for analysing malware activity and now several research show that situation in two Russian domains develop absolutely differently. In .РФ domain there are almost no malware programs while .RU domain counts more than 300 thousand potentially dangerous sites. The reason is unexpected: .РФ domain doesn’t have a working email which is the main viruses and phishing letters carrier. Nevertheless email in .РФ domain will start working for sure: Coordination Center makes a lot of serious attempts and holds negotiations with huge email clients and services. Andrey Kolesnikov explained that many email services don’t support internationalized email addresses yet for the owners consider this function not really popular with users. According to Mr. Kolesnikov it will take several years for IDN-domains (.РФ domain is one of these) to work in full strength. .РФ zone email addresses support implementation will help .РФ zone to grow 20% more.
“.РФ zone “has settled”, the domain feels wonderful and occupied its place on the market. Now there are more than 800 thousand domain names in .РФ domain, there is a constant growth, since the beginning of 2013 it’s been 4.3%, the share of delegated domain names also increases”, - Andrey Kolesnikov says. Out of all registered domain names in .РФ segment 76.5% of domain names have been delegated. 21.4% out of them have fully working sites and 10.6% sites are readdressed to a .RU zone site.”
Mr. Kolesnikov also notes that .РФ domain played an important role in internationalized domains establishing in Internet. “We are held as an example to other IDN-domains and to my opinion it shows well on Russian in Internet space. Moreover, we consult cyrillic domains registries, such as Ukraine and Mongolia, as well as IDN-domains registries, - CEO of Coordination Center says. - so our experience is in high demand and useful”.
