HostObzor 21: content filtering requires joint effort

The HostObzor hosting providers forum has started in St. Petersburg, Russia. The biannual event helps domain industry members engage in discussions on today's critical issues.

This year, the agenda of HostObzor includes reports, roundtables and sessions. The forum is supported by the Coordination Center. In two days, the most topical issues are to be discussed at the event.

The RAEC hosting providers and registrars' commission had an expanded session this year, including both industry members and those of Roskomnadzor, Russia's federal supervision service for communication industry. Sergey Kopylov, head of the Coordination Center's legal department, spoke on best practices of uniting technology and legal aspects in content filtering. "Today's content filtering practices are unable to completely prevent the illegal content from being on the Internet," Kopylov says, "and to fix this, the government agencies have to resort to the industry experts, engaging in collaborations with them so the task of effective content filtering would be solved".

The Coordination Center is also hosting a workshop for hosting providers and registrars; during the event, the Coordination Center experts will brief the attendees on the new gTLD program, while the members of registrar and hosting community will be able to discuss critical issues in person.
