On April 7, 2013, .RU has celebrated its 19th birthday. In the last year, the Russian TLD has grown significantly, with 19.4 percent growth, or 737,297 domain names. Overall, there are 4,479,906 domain names in .RU as of April 7, 2013.
In September 2012, the number of domain names in .RU exceeded 4,000,000. At the moment, .RU is one of the fastest-growing TLDs worldwide; in the past 5 years, it grew 3.4 times, or by 3,165,029 domain names. .RU is currently ranked 6th ccTLD in the world and is in the top 3 by growth rate. Within European country code TLDs, the results are even more significant: .RU is leading both in terms of growth rates and number of newly registered domain names.
In the beginning of 2013, .RU continued at a fast pace: 473,608 domain names were registered in the first three months of the year, or 209,261 domain names in absolute numbers. In 2012, 322,772 domain names were registered in the same period, and .RU grew by 129,597 domain names. In year over year comparison, the growth rate in .RU exceeded 60%.
Domaining experts think that if these growth rates are to be maintained, .RU can exceed 5,000,000 domain names by the end of 2013.
