The .ДЕТИ ("children") Cyrillic TLD has successfully passed the initial evaluation phase, which means that an unique space for Russian-speaking youth will soon appear on the Internet. The appilcation for the Cyrillic TLD was filed by the Smart Internet Foundation.
The new Cyrillic domain will form an Internet space that will address the needs of the younger Internet audience. The .ДЕТИ TLD is a not-for-profit project, aiming at making the global network more friendly, safe and engaging for the Russian-speaking youth.
In case there are no other applicants for the TLD, and there are no warnings and advices issued, the applicant has to sign the registry contract with ICANN. With .ДЕТИ, the Smart Internet Foundation was the only applicant for the TLD.
"Today marks the first real step in launching the .ДЕТИ TLD. What we had before was only general pledges and obligations; with the Initial Evaluation phase passed, the results of our work are now feasible – the Russian-speaking children will finally have their own Internet space, their unique domain zone", says Ilya Peresedov, executive director of the Smart Internet Foundation.
"We're glad that the .ДЕТИ TLD has passed the Initial Evaluation phase as it is a long-awaited and very important step in its history," says Marina Nikerova, deputy director of the Technical Center of Internet. "The new domain zone now has to pass the technical tests and delegation, and these steps will get us closer to launching an unique Internet space where children could safely use all advantages of the global network".
Other Cyrillic domains that have passed initial evaluation include .КОМ ("com"), applied for by Verisign, and .МОСКВА ("Moscow"). The Coordination Center team congratulates the FAITID, who applied for .МОСКВА, and wishes luck in developing another Cyrillic domain in the global network!
