On December 17, 2012, the new gTLD prioritization draw finally resolved the order in which the new gTLD applications will be reviewed. The results of the draw can be found at ICANN website, with .ДЕТИ ("children") Cyrillic IDN placed 67 in 1917 top-level domain applications, meaning that the new Cyrillic IDN can be delegated in the nearest future if the application filed by the Smart Internet Foundation will be approved.
New .ДЕТИ domain is intended to become an one-point entry for Russian youth websites, aiming at creating safe, secure Internet for children. The proposed top-level domain has been appraised by the Supervisory Board of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives led by Vladimir Putin.
ICANN plans to publish first assessment results in the end of March 2013, with first new top-level domains being delegated no earlier than April 2013. As ICANN states at the corporate website, the gelegations will continue at an unhurried pace of no more than 85 domains per month, and will not exceed the rate of 1,000 TLDs per year.
The results of the draw will be also taken into account when considering times for pre-delegation testing.
"Being 67th in the review list is very lucky indeed," says Marina Nikerova, the chair of the Smart Internet Foundation. "IDN domains received special priority in the lists, and there are 108 of these, so we were expecting a place in the first 100 positions of the priority list. With .ДЕТИ in the middle of the list, all Russian applications stand near each other, .РУС being 57th, .ДЕТИ 67th, and .МОСКВА 69th in the queue. All these applications are quite similar, especially in terms of administrative questions. I think that the first reviews will help experts streamline the process, and we'll see results in the beginning of April 2013".
