Russia's major Internet projects of 2012 are new gTLD-oriented

On October 18, a session themed "Invest into the Future: The prospective projects of the Russian Internet in 2012" was held at Russian Internet Week 2012, moderated by Sergey Plugotarenko (RAEC) and German Klimenko (LiveInternet.ru). The major topic of the discussion was investor relations with newly emerged Internet projects.

Olga Alexandrova-Myasina, chief marketing officer of the Coordination Center, and Ilya Peresedov, the executive director of the Smart Internet Foundation, presented .ДЕТИ, one of the most promising projects of 2012. Committed to its general goals, he Coordination Center has initiated this project and invested in it to create an area where younger visitors of the Internet can feel safe.

The Internet for youth is one of the most prominent initiatives in the global network, Peresedov thinks. "The .kids domain is contested for by several applicants at once, while we're striving to bring our local initiative into life with a domain zone that is intended for all Russian speaking kids and youth".

Olga Alexandrova-Myasina briefed the public on how the Coordination Center supports .ДЕТИ. She pointed out that the Coordination Center does not only pose as an investor: the company has technical resources and ICANN relations experience.

As Alexandrova-Myasina notes, .ДЕТИ is a future point of entry for all younger Internet visitors. It is expected that the major Russian Internet resources will be also present in the domain.

Russian gTLD applications were discussed by Matvey Alexeev (Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development), who presented .МОСКВА/.MOSCOW project. Matvey Alexeev thinks that the project will be both image-improving and profitable. Overall, the gTLD applications were filed for many cities around the world.

Of four of the projects presented at the show, two are directly connected with new gTLD program, further cementing the opinion that expanding the domain space poses great interest and boosts potential for many Internet stakeholders: businesses, not-for-profit entities and Internet community alike.
