On October 17, the Dot-Journalism Award Committee has started its search for nominees. The annual award is seeking nominees for the second time, focusing on journalists that write about domains and Internet addressing systems. The award is intended to support journalists that reach out to their audience to promote safe Internet browsing and domaining industry, both Russian and worldwide. Dot-Journalism is hosted by RU-CENTER, Russia's leading domain registrar, Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) and the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ.
"The last award has shown that the most active "dot-writers" work for federal media. We think that the regional media pay unjustifiably low attention to the domain industry. This is why this year's award is intended to highlight the authors of the best pieces, find existing regional journalists that write about domains, stimulate the interest in domaining and enable the media to write more about Internet addressing system", says Andrey Vorobyev, corporate communications and government affairs director at RU-CENTER.
"The Internet fills an increasingly large part in the daily lives of Russians, so their knowledge of the global network evolution is of highest importance for today's society. As an industry association, RAEC strives to support writers that help the Internet users to know Internet laws and rules better", Sergey Plugotarenko, CEO of RAEC, comments on the matter.
"For us, the fact that in Russia there's a whole new group of writers that highlight domain-related topics and know the industry is very important. These writers include industry-related media, of course, but they also come from general media, information agencies, radio stations. Three years ago, a few people in Russia understood fully what a domain name was. In 2010, while launching .РФ, we were able to get the media interested, getting lots of coverage. As a result, Russia's new TLD thrived along with Russian domain space and Russian Internet segment as well. And, as before, we're always ready to help the media in understanding and covering more themes related to our complicated industry", says Andrei Kolesnikov, director of the Coordination Center.
Writers from all kinds of media are welcome to file their applications for the award at the Dot-Journalism website. The ceremony will take place at RIF+KIB, Russia's biggest IT convention, in the end of April 2013.
