On October 9, 2012, a roundtable on the issues of young Internet audience was held in the Civic Chamber of Russia. The main theme for the event was "Relevant issues of the children and youth in the Internet: tomorrow might be too late". The roundtable was held as a part of 4th Russian youth website contest, "Positive Content 2012", supported by the Coordination Center.
Olga Kostina, a member of the Civic Chamber, has praised the Positive Content contest, noting the importance of such events for Russia. According to Kostina, not only such contests should be held, but there should be education initiatives and incentives for making positive websites, such as grants.
"All of us have profound interest in the Internet that is safe for children and doesn't contain criminal, persuasive or other negative content. This is why the Coordination Center has applied for .ДЕТИ (.children) TLD that, for youth, will become a safe entry point to the Internet", says Olga Alexandrova-Myasina, Chief Marketing Officer, the Coordination Center. As Alexandrova-Myasina also says, the Coordination Center has been supporting various organizations that promote positive content in the Russian segment of the global network, as well as keeping the national domain zones clean. "The youth safety in the Internet is everyone's business, and the contest is a wonderful chance to unite our efforts".
Vladimir Mamontov, the director of the Smart Internet Foundation, briefed the public about content in the new .ДЕТИ top-level domain. Mamontov thinks that the best way to create positive content is when everyone puts their efforts forth, however small, to help this goal. Mamontov also spoke on the projects that the foundation is working on at the moment: these will be the first positive content websites in .ДЕТИ.
Positive Content contest has 6 general and 8 special awards, with more than 3,000 applications received this year. The winners will be awarded on November 21, 2012, at Runet Prize 2012.
