On June 6, 2012 IPv6 Russian Day will take place in St. Petersburg. The celebration is devoted to the implementation in Russia and worldwide of a new generation Internet protocol TCP/IP supporting 128 bits long IP addresses.
This event is organized by The Internet Exchange (SPB-IX) and The Technical Center of Internet (TCI) under the auspices of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the RF.
The participants of IPv6 Russian day are going to speak about the transfer and what problems may be faced by the providers, equipment and software manufacturers. The speakers at the workshop are, in particular, Alexander Ilyin, CTO of MSK-IX/IX.RU; Andrey Kolesnikov, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ; Andrey Robachevsky, Program Director of ISOC; Alexander Turkot, Executive Director of the Skolkovo’s IT cluster and other participants.
IPv6 Russian Day will be a part of the worldwide event: on June 6, 2012 major world IT companies will automatically switch on the support of IPv6 protocol on their equipment and services. It will not be a test launch as it was in 2011 but a permanent support of IPv6 protocol. This date will become an official kick off of the launch of IPv6 – World IPv6 launch.
IPv6 is no longer an experiment but an important step of the Internet evolution which has to be made right now. The transfer over IPv6 proved necessary when in the first part of the year the pool of free IP addresses on IPv4 protocol appeared to be completely exhausted. The last year’s World IPv6 day served a good example of how the Internet industry may get united to promote a technology of vital importance for its future success. Nowadays major Internet providers, equipment producers and web companies of the world are coming together to ensure a permanent access to IPv6 for their products and services.
Prior registration is necessary for the participation in the event. The form of registration and a preliminary program are published at web site MSK-IX/>
