Coordination Center’s practical workshops to help law enforcement agencies combat internet crime effectively

On May 30, 2012, the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ has hosted a practical workshop for law enforcement officers. During these annual sessions, the officials from various law enforcement agencies are able to learn more about Internet governance, address space, protocols and domains. Above that, legal aspects of communicating in the Internet were also discussed during the workshop.

Andrei Kolesnikov, the Coordination Center's CEO, noted that annual workshops held by the Coordination Center are an important part of the company's numerous social initiatives to benefit the entire pool of Russian Internet stakeholders. "When somebody conducts an unlawful deed in the Internet, the law enforcement officers shouldn't be the only ones to tackle the crime; the cybercrime is a social problem, and everyone should take part in solving it", says Andrei Kolesnikov.

The workshop attendees were also able to know more about worldwide address space as well as Russia's domain name registration and backbone systems. George Georgievsky, head of registrar and user relations department, told the attendees about the quickest and most effective ways of removing negative content in social networks, websites and forums, and shared best practices of blocking illegal content in third-level domains.

Interactions between law enforcement agencies and Internet stakeholders were also heavily discussed during the workshop. Mariya Malysheva, the Coordination Center's senior legal consultant, told the attendees about obligations ISPs have in legal terms. Sergey Kopylov, head of the legal department, Technical Center of Internet, also has briefed the officials on communicating with registrars, hosting and content providers, as well as on major standards outlining their legal obligations.
