Andrei Kolesnikov appointed CEO of Coordination Center for TLD RU

During the Coordination Center's council meeting, Andrei Kolesnikov was appointed CEO of Coordination Center for TLD RU for the second time. In compliance with Coordination Center rules, the CEO of the noncommercial organization is to be appointed every three years. The decision is made by a majority of the voting CC's council members. In the end of February 2012, two candidates were selected to compete for the position, namely Andrei Kolesnikov, current Coordination Center director, and Vasily Dolmatov, ex-member of the CC's council, currently a Hosting Community representative.

Andrei Kolesnikov began his career in the field of telecommunications in 1988. In 1993, Andrei Kolesnikov was among the 8 representatives of the internet service providers who signed an agreement leading to the delegation of Russian country-code top level domain, .RU. In 1995, he led the launch of the first Russian mass internet service, Russia-On-Line. From 2005 to 2009 Andrei Kolesnikov was a Council member of Coordination Center for TLD RU, becoming its CEO in March 2009 and receiving his second appointment to this position from CC's council today.

Vasily Dolmatov is a graduate of the Moscow State University’s Department of Physics and the Higher Commercial School with the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation (МВА degree). On different occasions Vasily Dolmatov held managerial offices with certain Russian Internet companies. Between 2001 and 2005 he occupied posts of technical director and then of CEO at Demos, Russia’s oldest Internet provider. Since 2010 he has been in charge of R&D Department at Hosting Community Company Group.

A report covering Coordination Center's activities in 2011 was also presented by Andrei Kolesnikov. During the last year, .РФ domain grew to become one of the largest IDN ccTLDs in the world. By the end of 2011, the number of domain names in .РФ totaled 937,913 domains, showing a growth rate of 33.9 percent. The number of delegated domains grew significantly as well. While by the end of 2010 .РФ, a new domain by then, had 51 percent of its domain names delegated, in a year it already boasted 71 percent of delegated domain names, with domain name delegation rate in .РФ exceeding the domain's registration ratе. The delegation rate is a number that shows how many domain names are in use de facto, thus being a direct indicator of how successful a national domain zone is.

The relative growth of .RU by the end of 2011 was recorded at 15.5 percent, making it one of the biggest and fastest growing national domains.

Beyond that, Coordination Council members have also discussed other aspects of the 2011 report, such as key events of the past year, further development of registrations system in Russian national domains, and marketing activities regarding Russian domains, as well as financial subjects and other matters. The Coordination Center activities report for 2011 is to be published on the Coordination Center's website soon.
