On Wednesday, 19 October, the 4th Russian Internet Week opened at the Expocentre at Krasnaya Presnia. The Coordination Center for domains .RU/.РФ traditionally takes an active part in this biggest autumn event of the Internet industry by being a partner of the event.
Opening the Russian Internet Week, Igor Shchegolev, the RF Minister of Telecommunications and Mass Media, noted the achievements of the new national domain .РФ. “Domain .РФ is one of the most interesting phenomena, with which we lived in 2011.” The Minister emphasized that Russia was among leaders of the global domain market and over the last year the interest in the Cyrillic domain .РФ not only fell but increased. “Today not only a narrow circle of experts but community at large understand what the domain name is,” – said Igor Shchegolev.
Andrey Kolesnikov, the CC CEO, also related about the achievements of domain .РФ. “Domain .РФ is heading for a 1,000,000th milestone. This will be interesting to everyone: at international meetings, where the Russian domain market is often discussed, they stress the achievements of our country in the sphere of the progess both of domain space and the Internet on the whole,” – said he. In general, today the interest to domain .РФ is very high, as evidenced, for instance, by the fact that this year’s list of nominations for Runet awards embraced a special nomination “For the contribution to the development of domain .РФ.”
At the exhibition “Internet 2011”, which is held under the auspices the RIW, the CC sets up a joined stand where accredited domain names Registrars are invited to. This year, the stand will represent 5 Registrars: each one offers a number of its own events for the exhibition guests.
For example, on 19, 20 and 21 October RU-CENTR holds mini contests and quizzes on website design and respective web technologies under the auspices of WebHiTech contest, which is held with the support of RU-CENTR. Hosting Community will offer guests of the stand participation in a domain lottery: in the lototron, tickets will be mixed with a code for a domain or a code for a souvenir. REG.RU will hold a lottery offering special gifts and prizes. Registrar DOMENUS invites everybody to solve puzzles.
The Coordination Center participates in the working program of the Russian Internet Week. The session on Domain names will start at 1.30PM on 20 October in the Grey Hall. The moderator of the session will be Andrey Kolesnikov, the CC CEO. The session will focus on ways to develop the Russian domain names registration market, on the new Terms and Conditions of domain names registration in domains .RU and .РФ, and the “New gTLDs and Russian and foreign initiatives of expansion of the Internet addressing system” program

Andrey Kolesnikov and Marina Nikerova, the CC’ Council Chairperson, will participate in the workshop “Main trends of the Russian domain industry development: expansion of the Internet addressing space, consolidation of the domain names registration market,” which will be held on 20 October in the Grey Hall after the “Domain names” session.
