On 18 October 2011 the national domain zone .RU hit 3 500 000 registered domain names. Slightly earlier, in August 2011, domain .RU outran both domain of China (.CN) and the European Union domain (.EU) and rose from the 6th to the 4th place in the global ccTLD ranking.
Moreover, less than 3 weeks ago, on 30 September the national domain zone .РФ hit 900,000 registered domain names. It took less than 11 months from the launch of the open registration (11 November 2011). With such a base the Russian domain .РФ continues to steadily hold the 15th position by the number of registered domain names in the European rating of biggest ccTLDs.
Both Russian national domains continue to demonstrate spectacular growth, which is affected by many factors: overall surge in the number of Internet users in Russia, growing impact of the Internet on the Russian economy and booming interest of Russians to the Internet as a means of communication.
