On 7 July 2011, Coordination Center for TLD RU organized a workshop “Russian Domain Space and New Opportunities for Your Business” in the city of Irkutsk. The workshop was attended by representatives of 20-plus Irkutsk companies, leaders in the telecommunications industry of the Irkutsk region.
Andrey Kolesnikov, CEO of CC for TLD RU, opened the event. He briefed attendees on Coordination Center's role and mission on the Russian domain market. The list of presenters included: Irina Danelia, Senior Deputy Director of CC for TLD RU, with a presentation on “Global Domain Industry: Facts and Trends”, Georgy Georgievsky, Head of Registrar and End-User Projects Department of CC for TLD RU, with a report “How to Become a Russian Domain Registrar”, and Dmitry Beliavsky, a leading expert of the Technical Center of Internet Department of Applied Services with a presentation of “Virtual registrar” service. The audience became particularly interested in the presenters’ report on how to get accreditation as a registrar of domain names in national top level domains and what technical and organizational requirements are needed for registrars. Discussion focused on the TCI’s new service “Virtual registrar”. The participants examined the service's interface and were given a chance to try themselves in a test mode as domain names registrars. Olga Alexandrova-Miasina, Head of Corporate Communications of CC for TLD RU, gave answers to questions related to promotion of the new service.
The key speakers’ presentations were followed by a general discussion, with questions focusing on new ways of conducting the registrar’s business, IPv6 and the role of CC for TLD RU in global community.
This regional event has become a groundbreaking one organized by CC for TLD RU. The main objective of this and subsequent workshops is to expand the use of national top level domains of the Russian Federation (.RU and .РФ) for the benefit of the Russian internet community and to attract regional companies to accreditation as registrars of domain names.
