On this day of 12 May 2010, a year ago, the IANA introduced the entry about Cyrillic domain .РФ in its root servers’ registries. ANO “Coordination Center for TLD RU” became the official administrator of the new root domain.
Over the 1st year of its life, domain .РФ more than once surprised both the Russians and the global Internet-community. The launch of the open registration of IDN TLD .РФ in November 2010 made history when 240,000 plus domain names were registered on the first day, and for the first month of its operations hit nearly 700,000 registrations. This fact became one of major topics at many international and Russian forums and meeting lately. The 15th place by the number of domain names among European national domains speaks for itself. Early in April, IDN TLD .РФ outran the Czech Republic’s traditional country domain .CZ.
As of today, 826,610 domain names are registered in IDN TDL .РФ, and more than 58% of them have been delegated. String .РФ more often appears on billboards, each day new sites are opened in zone .РФ.
