The Coordination Center for ccTLD .RU to announce a contest for the best snapshot of an ads poster. The main condition for the contest participants is that the showboard must display a domain name in zone .РФ.
When we were just getting ready to launch the new national domain zone .РФ, we assumed that outdoor advertising would be one of the areas of future application of Cyrillic domains. And indeed, it is much easier to memorize a domain name written in the native tongue rather than to try to parse “the author’s transliteration”, which displays domain names in zone .RU.
Two months after a boom launch of the open registration, we conducted a linguistic survey of already registered domain names. Nearly 2,000 domain names (at the time) contained the verb “buy” and “sell”, ie qualified for full-fledged commercials. The list of registered domains contained announced for 2011 blockbusters like “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” and offers like “apartments in Moscow” or “the best design studio.” So, we wondered as to how many advertisers have already come to appreciate the practical potential of the new domain and became pioneers in promoting their goods and services in the new domain zone.
