As announced in the news of 26 September 2010 on the night of 24/25 September 2010, the 3rd million domain name was registered. By the end of today our technical experts have managed to identify the jubilee domain name administrator.
Initially it seemed impossible to determine the only one administrator, because the General Register simultaneously processes several dozens of applications. That’s why there were 20 contenders for the 3rd million domain name in ccTLD .RU. During the day the CC’s staff tried to get in touch with the administrators of these domains in order to obtain confirmation of the fact that the domain name was registered to a real individual or company. Regretfully, in most cases (to be more precise, all except one) telephone numbers given in thedomain name administrator’s data turned out to be inoperative of non-existent at all. Tha is why Mr. Sergey Alexandrobich Viatkin from Samara oblast has come through to “the final”. He registered domain name GOROD276.RU on 25 September 2010.
The CC congratulates Mr. Sergey Alexandrovich Viatkin with the registration of a jubilee domain name. Revealingly, the 3rd million domain name was registered not in Moscow but in the Volga region, practically in the heart of Russia. This means that today the Russian domain space is growing region-wise and domain names no longer are an exotic fruit, but a vital necessity for residents of various corners of Russia.
“As planned, the 3rd million milestone was reached by the end of September, - Mr. Andrey Kolesnikov, the CC director, - comments. – We are very happy that zone .RU demonstrates such high growth rates and demand for domain names in Runet rises from day to day. It is symbolic that the owner of a jubilee domain name is from the heart of Russia. Ideally, each Russian citizen should have a proper domain name – and not quite unnecessarily in zone .RU. However what stirs concern is that for domain names registration companies and registrants provide nonexistent contact information. Such domains are very often used for various types of unlawful activities in the Internet. The CC in tandem with the Runet community will be updating regulations for domain names registration- primarily for the benefit of at- large users for whom the Runet has become a communication, entertainment and business tool .”
