The Coordination Center for ccTLD .RU announces an important milestone in the Runet’s life: on the night of 24/25 September 2010, the 3rd million domain name was registered.
The growth in ccTLD .RU has gained momentum: it took .RU 13 years to hit the benchmark of one million registered domain names and another two years to double the number. Over the last year and a half the Runet has grown by another million of registered domain names – a remarkable performance indeed, as by no means can any ccTLD boast a similar growth rate. According to VeriSign, as of today, the Runet is among top ten top-level domains worldwide.

Many factors propel the vigorous expansion of ccTLD .RU, including the growing availability of the Internet in large cities and regions and globalization of the Runet. Moreover, the Russian Internet user has begun appreciating the Internet as a full-fledged tool for different types of communication and this also drives ccTLD .RU’s popularity.
