The 2009 Coordination Center Report

The Coordination Center for TLD .RU submits to the Internet community its 2009 Annual Report for consideration.
The report contains information which positions the Coordination Center as an open, financially transparent and democratically run public national Internet organization.
In 2009 the Coordination Center has solidified its position as manager of the national ccTLD .RU. The number of second-level domain names is up by 37%. Russia’s ccTLD has been unbeatable in terms of its growth rate vis-a-vis other national ccTLDs.

The launch of the IDN ccTLD has undoubtedly become a project of a paramount significance for the Coordination Center. The Coordination Center continues its work on its organizational and technological aspects.
It is envisaged that at the first stage of the priority registration with the deadline on 25 March 2010, as many as 10, 000 second-level domains will be registered on applications from Cyrillic trademarks owners.
By the end of March, the Coordination Center shall have also completed processing incoming applications for reservation of second-level domain names in ccTLD .РФ for the government needs.
In 2009 the Coordination Center participated in a number of key industry events aimed at development of the Internet in Russia and supported a whole lot of social initiatives, and became an active participant of the Year of Safer Internet, under the aegis of which it hosted several roundtables and ran on safer Internet for the younger generation.
The CC’s Annual Report contains both complete information on financial statements and comprehensive statistical data on domain names registration in ccTLD .RU. These data undoubtedly evidence that the CC’s plans for 2009 have been successfully accomplished.

The CC’s 2010 core mission remains a successful completion of the launch of the IDN ccTLD and the inception of an open registration of Cyrillic second-level domains for everybody. At the same time, the Coordination Center is committed to further vigorously contribute to the development of the domain space in Russia. The lion’s share of the Coordination Center’s initiatives will focus on bolstering its international activity. The year of 2009 saw serious steps were made in this direction. It’s about time the Russian national registry became a full-fledged arm of the international Internet-community.
