Namecheap, one of the world’s largest domain registrars, has published its 2025 Domain Insights & Trends Report. Over this period, its clients registered 11.64 million domain names, with the largest share falling to the .COM top-level domain, making the company second to only GoDaddy, the world’s recognized leader. It is noteworthy that last year Namecheap also began offering third-level domain registration services in the .COM domain, and the number of such registrations was unexpectedly high: over 76,000.
The .INFO domain ranked second in terms of last year’s registrations with 579,916 domains, followed by .SITE with 476,865. Anguilla’s ccTLD, .AI, saw the largest increase in registrations among all the domain extensions Namecheap works with: 89,852 names were registered in it, or a 55 percent growth from the previous year. Namecheap now accounts for over 20 percent of all domain names in Anguilla’s ccTLD. It is also worth recalling that Namecheap won the auction for .AI domain names that were not renewed on time.
Domain Name Wire also shares some interesting statistics from the report. Over the past year, Namecheap’s clients registered nearly two million domains that had numerals, while over a million included hyphens (though these solutions are considered far from ideal by most domain investors), and about 0.25 million had both.
In addition, 61 percent of Namecheap’s customers own just one domain, and only 11.8 percent own six or more domains.
