DN Journal reported the sale of the Skins.com domain name. The word "skin" is a term familiar to computer gamers. In games, "skins" are elements that change the appearance of characters, as well as their weapons, equipment, and so on. These elements allow players to stand out and highlight their status in multiplayer games and are purchased with both in-game currency and real money, often quite substantial amounts.
Now the same can be said about the Skins.com domain name. Hong Kong-based 99 HP Tech Limited created an online marketplace for skins for the popular game Counter-Strike 2 and acquired the domain for $1,459,450. The deal was brokered by QEIP.com, whose founder, Neil Patrick Bostick, confirmed that the sale took place two months ago. However, the buyer requested confidentiality until the website was launched. Now it’s live, and anyone can browse the range of virtual goods and their prices. The Skins.com sale will rank among the largest domain deals, becoming the fifth-largest since the beginning of this year (of those for which information is publicly available).
