As previously reported, the early access period for Amazon’s three new generic top-level domains – .TALK, .FAST, and .YOU – opened last Tuesday. Unlike the usual five days, this phase will run for an unusually long 11 days. The process is structured like a Dutch auction, with premium registration prices decreasing daily.
So far, it seems investors have not rushed to snap up the new domains. It is possible that Amazon has yet to update its statistics, but as of yesterday, not a single domain name had been listed in the .TALK and .FAST zone files. The .YOU domain, considered by experts to be the most promising of the three, does already boast a registration. Admittedly, it is only one, but it is the most obvious and, presumably, the most valuable.
According to Domain Incite, the domain name Love.you was registered on September 25, just 30 minutes after the early access period began. On the first day, the annual registration fee was $10,000, while premium names in the highest category – undoubtedly including Love.you – were subject to an additional $20,000 charge. These figures represent wholesale prices, excluding registrar mark-ups. This means the registrant of Love.you paid over $30,000 for one-year use of the domain.
