Amazon has notified ICANN of the expected launch dates for three new generic top-level domains: .TALK, .FAST, and .YOU. Amazon received the right to manage them, as well as many other domains, more than 10 years ago, during the first stage of the new domains program. But only now, when the second stage of the program is just around the corner, does the company seem to be starting to seriously engage in its domain management.
According to Domain Incite, a sunrise period for trademark owners in these domain zones will begin on August 26 and will continue for one month. Next, most likely, there will be a five-day early access period, organized according to the Dutch auction principle: premium domain names can be registered at the highest possible prices, which will significantly decrease every day. After that, general registration will open in .TALK, .FAST, and .YOU.
In May, Amazon launched three other domains – .FREE, .HOT and .SPOT – using the same scheme. Of course, it is too early to estimate their prospects, but the first results are not very impressive: as of the beginning of June, .FREE shows the best dynamics with about 1,500 registrations. Perhaps it is due to high prices set by the registry: the average of $30 to 60 for annual registration. The cost of registration in the .TALK, .FAST and .YOU domains is still unknown.
