The Coordination Center Academy’s library has been expanded with a new educational brochure titled General Issues of Digital Threats: Theory and Prevention. The material was prepared by the Center for Safe Internet in Russia with support from experts at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.
The brochure provides a general classification of digital threats, followed by a detailed analysis of the most common types: digital fraud, cyberbullying, terrorism- and extremism-related content threats, pro-drug content, and personal data violations. Each chapter not only describes the characteristics and causes of these threats but also offers advice on protecting against online dangers or minimizing potential harm. The information is presented systematically, emphasizing key points.
“Ensuring information security is an ever-relevant process. As technology evolves and new capabilities emerge – which malicious actors readily exploit – an adequate response is required to safeguard the digital space. Awareness-raising efforts, which account for new types and forms of threats, play a crucial role in countering digital risks,” commented Urvan Parfentyev, Coordinator of the Center for Safe Internet in Russia. “Understanding malicious actors’ tactics is the first line of defense for any user, as this knowledge helps recognize dangers and take precautionary measures in advance. Publishing such materials is vital for all target audiences, particularly the younger generation, who often lack life experience.”
In addition to the brochure – which is expected to serve as a frequent resource for parents, educators, and child welfare specialists – compact handouts for schoolchildren have been developed. Illustrations and diagrams explain how to protect personal data, recognize online harassment, identify fake content, and respond to netiquette violations. Another handout highlights the internet’s role as a tool for assistance in difficult situations, such as providing guidance on using digital resources if one gets lost. The handouts can be used digitally, printed, or obtained as giveaways at educational events hosted by the Coordination Center.
