Pay.com.au Limited, an Australian company, has sued the registrant of the PayRewards.com domain name. The case is being considered in the District Court of Denver County in Colorado, USA – the registration seat of NameBright, the company that acts as the domain name registrar. Pay.com.au Limited offers businesses services in organizing cashback schemes and other reward programs for payments made, and its interest in the domain that has such a name is understandable.
According to Domain Name Wire, late last year, the company's representatives contacted domain registrant Dean Adams. After several months of negotiations, the parties agreed on the amount of $38,000. The terms of the deal were agreed, and Pay.com.au Limited deposited the required amount in the Escrow.com secure deposit service. However, at this point Adams, having learned that he was dealing not with a private buyer, but a large company, suddenly changed his mind. He stated that he would only sell the domain for $380,000. Moreover, he notified Pay.com.au Limited that he would increase this price by five percent every week, and if it does not suit the company, he would find another buyer.
The lawsuit has yet to be resolved but Dean Adams failed to appear at the first court hearing and did not send his representatives, which by itself greatly reduces his chances to win. For now, the judge has imposed a temporary transfer ban or removal of the PayRewards.com domain name pending the final verdict.
