Google Corporation said it would renounce the use of ccTLDs for its search engine’s websites worldwide. The Google statement notes that new technologies have made it possible to achieve substantial progress in localizing search results. Consequently, there is no longer any need for using local websites. In the next few months, local websites will merely redirect users to the Google.com website, the world’s most-visited domain.
Users are unlikely to be affected, but they should list their search browser settings and preferences on the website once again. According to Domain Incite, users will no longer see their ccTLDs in the address bar. However, this will not seriously impact national TLD zones because in many countries, including European states, their ccTLDs are on par with .COM; the same is true about their popularity.
