Colombian Government launches .CO RFP process

Colombia’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies has published a draft document regulating the submission of requests for proposal (RFPs) for the right to operate the country’s .CO ccTLD that remains highly popular with foreign users because it closely resembles the .COM ccTLD. Currently, the .CO domain over 3 million registered domain names .

.CO Internet S.A.S., a subsidiary of GoDaddy Registry Services, the world’s largest domain registrar, has been operating the .CO ccTLD for the past fifteen years. Its current contract with the national Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies is to expire in October 2025.

According to Circle ID, the new terms being offered to prospective bidders stipulate a 10-year, rather than 5-year, contract. A public discussion of the draft document will last until late March. The document’s final version will be published on April 8, and bidders should submit their RFPs until May 6. Although the winning bidder is to be announced on May 22, these dates are preliminary and are subject to change in accordance with national legislation.
